steel drums

I was stunned by the sophomore students who were playing with their steel drums musical instruments. Those instruments produced sound through vibration. I have observed that each of their drums has a number of surfaces in the pan, which vary in pitch. I overheard an individual among the crowd saying that those steel drums are pitched idiophones. This means that they may be played by striking, plucking, friction, or blowing.
